The operation of our deflectometer is quite similar to a standard
mechanical dial
indicator. Deflection is measured with a single, break-away,
contact arm. The contact arm features a replaceable, spherical contact tip.
Contact force is provided by a pre-loaded
torsion spring. The contact force is sufficient to allow
dynamic cyclic testing, yet light enough to avoid undue influence on
the test. The spring loaded arm is designed to
break-free in the event of excessive displacement, protecting the
gage from damage.
As with our
extensometers, our deflectometers feature a full, 350 ohm, strain gage bridge design
and are compatible with most any brand test equipment. We can
install the proper connector to interface to most any electronics
including Instron. If your test frame or set-up does not have
the required strain signal conditioner, we can supply a stand-alone
signal conditioner calibrated with your extensometer. This will
allow you to use a chart recorder, digital display, or data
acquisition card.
An optional magnetic base is available for most
models to allow easy mounting to a reference surface (flat or
round). The magnetic base has a built-in fine adjustment to allow
precise positioning of the contact tip. Elevated temperature
testing will require additional mounting considerations as the
magnetic base can only be used for standard temperature
testing.
Our deflectometers come configured
for the standard measurement of downward deflections with a
corresponding negative voltage output. However,
the unit can be inverted for measurements in the opposite direction
and/or the output polarity can be changed. Please
consult the factory with your specific needs.
Standard models available in any combination of measuring
